We have just read the report quoting Muhammed Dahlan – the suspected perpetrator of the murderous November 2000 attack on an Israeli schoolbus – as saying:
“[Hamas says] that Fatah has asked them to recognize Israel’s right to exist and this is a big deception. For the one thousandth time, I want to reaffirm that we are not asking Hamas to recognize Israel’s right to exist. Rather, we are asking Hamas not to do so because Fatah never recognized Israel’s right to exist.”
“We acknowledge that the PLO did recognize Israel’s right to exist, but we are not bound by it as a resistance faction,” he added. (The Jerusalem Post, 18/3/2009)
This is the man Tsipi Livni wants to hand a Palestinian-Fatah-Hamas state to in the near future, as he will likely – by such remarks – be the only Palestinian leader acceptable to both Hamas and the majority of the PLO.
Thus has Dahlan – who is already a top advisor to the old man, Abu Mazen, cleverly positioned himself to strike when the internationally-promoted reconciliation efforts between Hamas and the PLO have born fruit.
It highlights the pathetic nature of Livni’s insistence that her Kadima party will only sit in a Netanyahu-led government if the Likud agrees to the creation of a Palestinian state as, potentially, that state-in-the-making would soon install a new leader acceptable to both Hamas and the largest Fatah faction of the P.L.O.: Muhammad Dahlan.
It is also pathetic to see the Likud run after a party that thus subscribes to Israel’s destruction! And this as Israel faces an existential threat from all around!
