The Bible, revered by true Christians as the inerrant Word of God, is really “just” the history of the land and people of Israel.
Of course, I am not here dismissing the sacredness of the Scriptures. My purpose is simply to emphasize a basic truth that has all but evaporated during 2000 years of Christian teaching, teaching which has successfully managed to “spiritualize” in our thinking the very physical realities penned on the Bible’s pages.
Except for the first 11 chapters in which, as it were, the groundwork is laid for everything that follows, the Bible is essentially the written history of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and the people that descended from them – the nation of Israel. This is true of both the Hebrew Bible (misnamed the “Old Testament”) and the New Testament.
It is, of course, a very unique history book. For not only did its writers record the past history of the Israelites and Jewish people, they also foretold their future history, much of which would only come to pass hundreds, sometimes thousands of years after it had been written down.
As we look back today, we can see that much of that, at the time of writing, future history – or prophecy – has been realized. At the same time, we recognize that there is a lot that still awaits fulfillment.
In a very real sense, then, we can say that Israel is the land where biblical prophecy is turned into human history.
We have chosen to present the history and prophesy features of Israel My Beloved in a single channel in order to convey something of the continuity of Israel’s past, present and future existence. We hope to lead you, as you make your way through these features, to the place where you will witness for yourself how and where history and prophecy meet.
Ground zero for their rendezvous is, naturally, the Land of Israel.
