Dear President Bush,
I am writing as a European who stands flabbergasted at the despicable attitude many of my fellow Europeans have expressed towards you and the United States of America.
Jesus says that the Devil is the prince of this present world. And while Satan.s reign has been blunted in the lives of men in different parts of the globe, inasmuch as individuals, communities and even government officials have come under God.s reign by receiving Christ as Lord of their lives, most of the world is still primarily under the sway of the Evil One. This is especially true where, as certainly is the case in Europe, men increasingly turn in enormous numbers away from the dictates and ways of God, and in that same proportion become willing tools in the hands of the one who seeks to destroy this planet earth. In Germany, a totally leftist and mostly anti-God government is in place.
Therefore, Mr President, when you spoke in the Senate after the bombing of the Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon in Washington DC, and said you would fight this scourge of terror as long as it would take, adding, “and I know the world will be with us in this battle,” I knew you had made a mistake.
Where the world is not enlightened by repentance and faith, it cannot be against evil, certainly not to fight against it. Men will choose what is good and expedient for their nations and their personal welfare. Only moral men who have chosen to be ruled by Someone other than their personal likes and appetites, only such men will be willing to fight evil first and foremost in their own lives, and then, maybe, in the world at large; especially when they have become rulers themselves.
So now you have discovered how very fragile is this wish of the world – be it the European world, the Arab Islamic world, or the UN world – to fight this battle with you.
I am at once ashamed and enraged at the attitude of many of my fellow Europeans who were too weak to defend and fight for their own freedom when the scourge of Nazism overran country after country, and who let your American soldiers bleed to free cities whose names they could hardly pronounce on our continent. Then America bailed out our shattered economies with the Marshall Plan, pumping billions of dollars into rebuilding Europe, including Germany, your former foe. And then, during the Cold War years, with the huge and giant threat of the Soviet Union hanging over us, your might and your soldiers defended our freedom.
And now that you wish to prevent the extremely dangerous cooperation between the Butcher of Baghdad, Al Qaida and other fanatic Islamic groups, Germany, France and Belgium were not even willing to join you in defending a fellow NATO country.
If you win your war in Iraq and thus save the Iraqi people from this monster who has posed a threat to so many of them, and that when a new and democratic Iraq will rise out of this endeavor, I hope that the United States and Britain, and not those nations who came against you, will be the main beneficiaries of Iraq’s huge oil reserves.
As a European citizen, it is dreadful to see the arrogance and lack of moral integrity of many Europeans who, if they had the honesty and humility to admit it, owe their freedom and prosperity not so much to themselves as to the efforts of your nation: the United Stated of America!
By being patient and sweet with the ruthless dictator Adolf Hitler, thus giving him his needed time, France and England (under Chamberlain) did not prevent war but rather facilitated it – allowing thus a terror and war to be unleashed on the European Continent which cost the lives of over fifty million people.
Those who all over the world want you to weaken your resolve are not the voices which God has inspired.
Therefore be strong and of good courage. May God Himself be with you in your valiant fight against terror!
Yours
